This course provides an overview of how base oils are made, of finished lubricant demand sectors, as well as insights into potential disruptors. This course will expand your industry knowledge and sets a foundation for technical, marketing, executive personnel across base oil, finished lubricants, additive, and supply chain industries.

The course will cover:

  • Base oil manufacturing routes and how they will shape future profitability
  • Future trends and disruptive scenarios - Covid recovery. electric vehicles, Gas to Liquids (GTL) base oils
  • API Base Oil Groups & Qualities and whether they are still relevant today

Base Oils II: Product Quality and Global Profitability (24 June)

By attending this course you will gain both technical and commercial insights into base oils markets, supply and demand forecasting, and quality variations by supplier. This course will help strengthen your ability to understand future trends and achieve your business goals.

The course will cover:
 
  • How base oils for engine oils impact all other base oil and finished lubricant sectors
  • How to do a simple forecast for supply and demand outlook
  • Continued oversupply drivers, as well as light base oils from hydroprocessing - bio-based, re-refined and Group V synthetics

About the Trainer:
 
Amy Claxton is a registered professional Chemical Engineer and owns a consulting company called My Energy. With thirty-five years in the refining industry, her expertise includes global crude oil quality assessment; fuels and base oil refining technology and economics; and base oil pricing and supply forecasting. In addition, she has 2 decades of expertise involving gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology, economics, and intellectual property.
 
Prior to starting her own company in 2001, Ms Claxton worked for Dow Chemical, Exxon, and ExxonMobil. After assignments in refinery fuels, chemical, and base oil operations, she became manager for technical services at Exxon’s Baytown, Texas refinery. During the Exxon - Mobil merger, Ms. Claxton was Exxon’s Corporate Base Oil Liaison for senior officials and lawyers at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, Exxon, Mobil, and outside law firms.
 
Amy speaks regularly at global industry conferences and presents timely updates on topics of interest to the lubricant base oil, wax and gas-to-liquids industries. She is known for her ability to explain technical information in a concise and jargon-free manner. 
 
When not involved in oil and gas work, Ms Claxton enjoys travel, cooking, reading GTL patents for fun, and spending time with her family in Hershey, Pennsylvania and their country house in Quebec, Canada. She is married to a physician and has three outspoken college kids.
